It’s one thing to shoot compelling images when you are filming a war scene with smoke and explosions and tanks and dirty faces. Or a sweeping vista of Monument Valley with rugged frontiersmen on horses. Its another thing altogether to shoot a good looking scene in a middle class home. You have very little to work with. You have to make something look good/natural that you’ve probably seen every single day of your life. Deakins did a fine job with this film and I think it deserves to be studied. Enjoy.
